4th May 1959 - Parks Department (Operations Card 26 D2 & 3)
Proposed Acquisition of Section of the Dudley Canal
The Parks Committee decreed that no action be taken in the proposed acquisition of a section of the Dudley Canal (which adjoins the northern boundary of the Park) at the meeting held on the 4th May 1959, Min. No. 21203 of the 4th May 1959 refers.
Note: At one time it was thought that the canal could be used for canoeing but it was pointed out that the provision of an adequate water supply presented a problem, the estimated cost of such supply being in the region of £30,000. Additionally, there was the possibility that conditions might deteriorate at times and cause much concern due to the establishment of insanitary conditions arising out of the stagnation of vegetation which would be exposed should the water level fall appreciably.
